NCAA men’s basketball comes back to Greenville in 2022
Greenville has landed another NCAA men’s basketball tournament. The NCAA announced Tuesday that Bon Secours Arena, Furman University and the Southern Conference will host the first and second rounds of the 2022 tournament on March 18 and 20. Other cities hosting the first and second rounds in 2022 are Pittsburgh, Penn.; San Diego, Calif.; Buffalo, N.Y.; Fort Worth, Texas; Milwaukee, Wi.; Cincinnati, Ohio; and Portland, Ore. Greenville will also host the NCAA women’s basketball regional in 2020.
Blue Ridge Brewing Co. to reopen in Greenville
Breweries are making big news this week in downtown Greenville. Blue Ridge Brewing Co. is heading back downtown. This time the restaurant will be moving into the 19,000-sqaure-foot former White Horse Paper Co. at 405 Westfield St., right on the Greenville Health System Swamp Rabbit Trail and a block from the future City Park. The restaurant and brewery plans to open in the fall.
GHS’s $80M grants program gets a start date and a name
Last summer, the Greenville Health System (GHS) announced that over the next 20 years they will fund programs that aim to make the county’s population healthier. At the time, GHS didn’t have a start date or an official name for the program. Now we do: Healthy Greenville 2036 and it launches in September, with letters of intent due May 15. The first of Healthy Greenville’s initial $4 million in grants will go to the organizations that have the best ideas of how to fix the county’s worst health problems.
SPRUCE Curated Interiors opens doors on Spartanburg’s east side
The upscale interior design store SPRUCE Curated Interiors has opened on Spartanburg’s east side. In January, Mary-Stewart Loring, originally of Spartanburg, purchased the 10,000-square-foot building at 844 S. Pine St. formerly occupied by Vintage Warehouse for her new concept. The business officially opened in March after an extensive renovation of the facility.
Yee-Haw Brewing Co. to open in Keys Village
The rumors are true: A new brewery will be opening late summer next to CycleBar in Keys Village at 307 E. McBee Ave. in Greenville. Yee-Haw Brewing Co. from Johnson City, Tenn., whose European-style Dark/Muenchner Dunkel landed the bronze at the 2016 World Beer Cup, will open its second location in the 4,402-square-foot space closest to McBee in the development that was announced nearly a year ago. CycleBar, which opened in January, is the first tenant to open up shop.
