This year’s Fall for Greenville mixes old and new for a fun-filled weekend
Can you smell it? Fall for Greenville is almost here. And even if you can’t yet taste it, the delicious aroma of local food is already in the air. The 35th annual Belk Fall for Greenville kicks off Thursday and runs through Sunday, bringing 39 restaurants, four food trucks, 25 craft beer vendors, over 200 menu items and 75 musical acts with it.
City pledges $2.8 million for Harris Teeter, NorthPointe project
The NorthPointe project that will transform a key gateway into Greenville and bring an upscale Harris Teeter to the north end of town is on track now that the city has pledged to set aside $2.8 million to help with public improvements related to the project. The work on 9 acres of triangle-shaped land at the incongruous meeting point of Wade Hampton Boulevard, Stone Avenue and Church Street will begin some time next month, starting with realignment of the intersection.
Greenville gets first two rounds of 2017 NCAA men’s basketball championship
Greenville has landed the first and second rounds of the 2017 NCAA men’s basketball championships, according to the NCAA’s official Twitter account. The games will be held at the Bon Secours Wellness Arena on March 17 and 19.
Downtown Greenville Ruth’s Chris opens
The much anticipated restaurant is the second Ruth’s Chris location in Greenville (the first is located at 851-A Congaree Rd., at Crowne Plaza) and is also owned by Sizzling Steak Concepts, which is the largest Ruth’s Chris Steak House franchisee. The new restaurant will offer all the elements for which the restaurant has become known, including custom-aged USDA prime steaks and an award-winning wine list.
Risata Pizza to open in Greer this December
More pizza is on the horizon. Previous Erwin Penland creative director Joe Gilman is opening Greenville’s first Neapolitan pizzeria in Greenville. So what exactly does a Neapolitan pizzeria look like? Well, the official title of the association is the Associazione Vera Pizza Napoletana (VPN) and includes a strict list of requirements to ensure that the pizza is true to traditional pizza made in Naples. The restaurant will open following VPN standards in hopes to become certified.
