City Council & Garden Club Collaborate to Purchase Reedy River Land

When a developer proposed building an office building and more on the banks of the Reedy River, there was opposition to the plan. According to an agreement made between the Carolina Foothills Garden Club and Greenville City Council, the Garden Club will donate $900,000 to the city through its Falls Park Endowment to help defray the cost of purchasing the land. This will be in exchange for a conservation easement being permanently placed on one-half acre of the property. Upstate Forever will be named the grantee of the conservation easement.

The Swamp Rabbit Cafe and Grocery Announce Plans to Open Butchery

The café and grocery located right off of the Swamp Rabbit Trail, is revered as a delicious stop to find the freshest local ingredients and meals. Fans of the Greenville staple will be thrilled to discover the grocery’s plans to open a butchery in the back corner of the store. Thanks to the help of a USDA grant, last year the grocery doubled in size – and saw profits in all areas except meat. The store owners dug deeper to find a strategic way to grow their meat business while maintaining their commitment to organic food and local farmers. With their goal in mind, Swamp Rabbit’s plans of a butchery have come to fruition. They will now be able to purchase whole and half size animals, not only creating more profit for producers, but also more control over quality of products. The butchery aims to bring fresh and unique cuts of meat to Upstate natives.
