The Greenville Little Theatre Receives an Extraordinary Gift
Greenville Little Theatre has received the largest gift in its 92-year history. Mr. and Mrs. William Power bequeathed the theater $410,000. The money has been added to the GLT Endowment, which now totals more than $910,000 and is used to support the theater’s programming. The GLT Endowment will be named the William and Martha Power Fund for Artistic Excellence.Allen McCalla, GLT’s executive artistic director, said the gift would benefit the theater for generations to come. “Their legacy and love for the arts will certainly be carried on through GLT,” he said. Greenville Little Theatre is the oldest and largest locally producing theatre in the city. GLT looks forward to continuing to contribute to the arts community.

TR Poised to Take Next Step in Revitalization
Travelers Rest is no longer the sleepy little town it used to be. The town’s transformation of a slow Main Street into a bustling downtown has been an economic development home run. Before the Greenville Hospital System Swamp Rabbit Trail officially opened and $4.5 million was spent to turn three blocks into a walkable retail and food stretch, Main Street Travelers Rest, aka U.S. Highway 276, had dozens of vacant buildings. Now, it is a destination and a city running out of available property. In the wake of their growth, the city wants to extend the revitalization to Poinsett Highway and Center Street, streets that connect Main Street to U.S. 25, the other major thoroughfare that bifurcates the city. “It’s a natural extension of Main Street,” City Administrator Dianna Gracely said. And it will use the same approach — road and intersection improvements, bike paths, infill development, streetscaping, and sidewalk improvements.

New Burger Food Truck Joins the Spartanburg Scene
Longtime friends David Rivera and Matthew Welborn know how to make a mean burger. The two Spartanburg natives, who have been buddies since high school, combined their business and culinary passions and recently launched the Burg’r Boys food truck. The mobile eatery has been on the streets of Spartanburg for nearly four months serving up simple, quality food and more than just the average burger. Every burger patty is formed by hand, using fresh meat, topped with local produce when available and accompanied by hand-cut fries. And that’s just the burgers. “We do some specials, too, like pork tacos, chicken tacos, wings and pork sliders,” Welborn said. “It’s really always changing, and we’re developing the menu and learning as we go.” Rivera said he hopes Burg’r Boys will help grow the local food truck scene, particularly in downtown Spartanburg.
