Greenville to host SEC women’s tournament
The Bon Secours Wellness Arena announced plans to host the 2017 Southeastern Conference Women’s Basketball Tournament. Gov. Nikki Haley, SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey and Greenville Mayor Knox White hailed the arrival of the first major sporting event to come to the Palmetto State since the Confederate flag was removed from the front of the Statehouse grounds.
Stuffed bunny reunited with owner after Artisphere
It’s not unusual for people who go to festivals to lose things, but the City of Greenville events staff knew one item in this year’s lost and found was special. Amongst the usual sunglasses and assorted items was a stuffed gray bunny, so worn they knew it would be missed. The city posted the lost bunny on its Facebook page Sunday afternoon. The post quickly became the most shared post ever and helped reunite a toddler with her favorite stuffed animal.
Michelin distribution center near Reidville would employ 350
Greenville-based Michelin North America plans a 350-worker distribution center in the Reidville area of Spartanburg County. The $332 million distribution center would be located on about 680 acres along State 101 near its intersection with State 417, between Reidville and the Five Forks area of Greenville County. Michelin spokesman Eric Bruner declined to comment, even though Spartanburg County Council voted unanimously Monday to approve the related tax break on second reading.
Coastal Crust pizza truck plans Greenville rollout
Popular Charleston pizza truck Coastal Crust is headed to Greenville this summer with a newly restored 1955 Chevy and a wood-fired Valoriani pizza oven to serve Neapolitan-style pizza. Coastal Crust’s unique approach to catering events has found a loyal fan base in Charleston, where the truck caters weddings, special events and corporate events. It is equipped with a pizza oven, a custom tap system for pouring local brews, a sound system and refrigeration for storing fresh salads. Coastal Crust Greenville will rely heavily on fresh produce from local farmers and the future Feed & Seed nonprofit farmers’ distribution network.
Korean-southern barbecue restaurant to open downtown in June
John Ko can’t help himself, he loves change. That’s why, after Ko sold his popular casual taco concept, Local Taco, he didn’t wait long before diving into a new restaurant. Ko will open that new concept, Oakblue Kitchen, in June in the location formerly housed by Bravo! Mexican restaurant, at 109 N. Main St. While the 2500-square-foot restaurant will be equally creative as Local Taco, Ko hopes it will be something entirely new for Greenville. Oakblue Kitchen will offer a mix of traditional southern and Korean barbecue, as well as craft cocktails, in a modern rustic setting.
