The Greenville County Library System will begin constructing a 28,410-square-foot library at the intersection of Woodruff Road and Sunnydale Drive in Simpsonville. The new library will feature a large active-learning area for children with an adjacent porch for hands-on play and social skill development.

Charleston-based gourmet market and café Caviar & Bananas, opened its doors at its downtown Greenville location on Aug. 10. Caviar & Bananas Greenville occupies 4,700 square feet on Laurens Street, next to the Aloft Greenville Downtown Hotel in the ONE City Plaza. The market and café will be open seven days a week for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and weekend brunch, and will feature an espresso/tea bar, a charcuterie and cheese counter, as well as an outdoor seating area.

It’s been more than three years since plans were shared to build a dual-branded hotel on an inconspicuous parking lot on Spring Street — but now those plans are moving forward. The one-acre property across from the Spring Street garage between East McBee Avenue and East Washington Street has been cordoned off with a black screen in preparation for construction to begin.

Famous Toastery, which is based in Charlotte, North Carolina will open in the spot at 104 S. Main St., said Robert Maynard, co-owner. Plans call for opening the restaurant either later this year or early next, Maynard said. Maynard and his partner, Brian Burchill, began looking at places to open their restaurant in Greenville last year. They also have plans to open four other restaurants in South Carolina over the next year, Maynard said.
