Greenville’s renaissance is not going unnoticed. The Chicago Tribune is certainly not the smallest among those praising Greenville. A column published Monday morning calls Greenville ‘very cool’ and emphasizes that this wasn’t necessarily true 30 years ago. The columnist highlights Greenville’s boutiques and art galleries as well as its downtown activity, noting it used to be a place people didn’t go after dark.

A new taqueria and bar opened its doors in on Aug. 1. Cantina 76 is the first Upstate location for the Columbia-based restaurant. It is located at 103 North Main Street at One City Plaza in downtown Greenville, across from the new Aloft Hotel. The 4,098-square-foot space has 161 seats: 120 seats inside, 17 seats at the bar and 24 seats outside. It will offer “a simple yet diverse menu of fresh and affordable Mexican-inspired fare and beverages.”

From the outside, Spartanburg Community College’s Center for Business and Entrepreneurial Development looks like another industrial complex along the county’s bustling Highway 290 corridor. But looks can be deceiving. Local officials believe the facility is one of the most important tools in the county’s repertoire of economic development assets that has continued to attract new investment and, perhaps most importantly, jobs.

Greenville Health System’s Patewood Memorial Hospital has the best orthopedic care in South Carolina, according to new hospital rankings released by U.S. News & World Report. The hospital – located at 175 Patewood Drive – was ranked 19th in the nation for adult orthopedic care with a score of 62.5 out of 100. There were no other hospitals recognized in that category in the state.

Caviar & Bananas has delayed its Greenville opening. The market was set to open Monday, but owners announced yesterday on Facebook that it will open on Wednesday, Aug. 10. The 4,700-square-foot store is located at 1 Laurens St., near the Aloft hotel. The market opened its first location in Charleston in 2008, offering specialty salads and gourmet pastries. The Greenville location will be the market’s first to include a wine bar.
