Passengers coming in and out of Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport have another transportation option. GSP officials said they have reached an agreement with the app-based ride-sharing service Uber to allow the transportation network company to operate at the airport. The agreement took effect Jan. 25.

The public notice signs have been pulled that indicate the development of a prominent gateway into downtown Greenville, but the group behind the large-scale NorthPointe project that will bring an upscale Harris Teeter to the area say the plans are on track. For now, Central Realty Holdings is going back, literally, to the drawing board to redesign the Harris Teeter building, along with other design elements of the project that will bring 285 apartments, restaurants and a redesign of the troubling intersection where three U.S. highways meet together and mark the entrance from suburbia into urban Greenville.

The industrial site on Greenville’s West Side that will house the new Birds Fly South brewery will be transformed into a larger hub for independent business — featuring a skate shop, new location for Dapper Ink, art space and, developers envision, a new extension of the Swamp Rabbit Trail. The project is called “Hampton Station” and will inhabit 100,000 square feet of space that was once a cotton warehouse dating back to 1919.

With Greenville’s craft brewing scene growing fast, a new tour service will begin this week, taking passengers to breweries aboard a 12-passenger van. The Brewery Experience starts with a Valentine’s Chocolate and Beer pairing tour on Friday, then begins offering regular trips on Wednesdays and two on Saturdays, starting Feb. 17 and 20 said company founder Gary Glancy. Private tours can also be arranged to any destination a passengers requests, he said. “I’ve been coming to Greenville since 2002, going to Barley’s, Blue Ridge Brewing and the Trappe Door and it is becoming a great beer city,” he said.

The Upstate now has a new “Buy Local” campaign, this time under the GreerMade certification from the Greater Greer Chamber of Commerce. Similar to “Made in USA” or “Certified SC Grown,” the GreerMade label aims to showcase locally built or crafted products, and already extends to BMWs, bowties, and bourbon.
