First Look: Boutique bowling alley Stone Pin Company set to open May 15
On May 15, the long-awaited boutique bowling alley Stone Pin Company officially opens under the event space Revel. The space includes six lanes, three on each side with a full bar and lounge in the center. Bowlers can wait their turns while lounging on crescent-shaped faux-leather sectionals that are several notches above the usual hard plastic bowling chairs. The interactive bowling system allows bowlers to personalize the scorekeeping and post the play-by-play on Facebook for their friends to comment on. The system also suspends the bowling pins by strings, rather than having them loose, requiring less time for reset.
The city is on the prowl for historic buildings
Greenville residents can suggest properties they think should be included in an upcoming historic resources survey. The city has hired a consultant, WLA Studio, to identify historically significant properties citywide, especially in the West End, Village of West Greenville, the Sullivan community, Cleveland Park area, Nicholtown, North Main, Augusta Road, Sherwood Forest, and Parkins Mill. The consultants will tour the nine focus areas of the city on foot looking for properties built before 1975 that could qualify as historic properties based on architectural style, features, and historic significance such as who lived there or events that happened there.
The Noble Dog Hotel is ready to pamper your pup
Nearly a year after plans were first announced, the Noble Dog Hotel, a luxury boarding, day care, and grooming service located at Hampton Station, will open May 9 and hold a grand opening celebration on May 20. And the moment that dog owners step into the Noble Dog Hotel lobby, there will be little doubt that their four-legged friend is in for some five-star treatment.
Greenville Water unveils sculpture honoring Cherokee heritage
More than 50 people gathered on Saturday afternoon at Greenville Water System’s campus in downtown Greenville for the unveiling of a sculpture honoring the area’s Native American heritage. Crafted by Greenville sculptor Doug Young, “Water Blessing,” a 10-foot bronze sculpture, depicts a Cherokee man holding a satchel of water to the sky in tribute to the tribe’s connection to Upstate waterways. The man is “giving thanks for one of God’s greatest gifts, the water of life,” according to Phillip Kilgore, chairman of the Greenville Water Commission.
Rick Erwin restaurant opens this week at Drayton Mills
The finishing touches are being put on Rick Erwin’s newest restaurant, The Standard: A Refined Kitchen, which will open this week at Drayton Mills Marketplace in Spartanburg.The new restaurant will seat nearly 200 guests in more than 7,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor dining space inside a portion of the renovated Drayton Mills company store. The space includes a main dining room, a wrap-around bar, community cocktail tables and a private dining area. Outside, patio furniture is arranged around a fire pit and a nearby bar window where drinks can be ordered without ever entering the restaurant.
