Home Tip Of The Week: Fall Back In Love With Your Home

Remember that feeling of excitement you had when you first moved in to your home? After settling in, has that feeling gone away? Don’t worry! With a few easy steps, you can rekindle the romance and make your home feel brand new again.

Step 1: Get an outside perspective.

Come in through the front door like a guest would, and take a look around. You may notice something new with a fresh set of eyes. Picture yourself as a buyer looking at the house. What would catch your eye, and what would turn you off? Also, try taking pictures. It’s amazing how photos can make you see things differently.

Step 2: Clean, declutter, and organize!

Fall cleaning is the new spring cleaning. When your home is cluttered, do you notice that your mind feels cluttered, too? Sometimes a good cleaning session can make a world of difference. You’ll be surprised how much more open and airy your home feels after.

Step 3: Make repairs.

Broken items or areas can really bring a room down. Make a list of what needs to be fixed and if it can be done yourself or if you need a professional. Then create a timeline to determine when to address these issues over time to suit your budget.

Step 4: Change it up!

Try one small upgrade in every room. Rearrange the furniture. Think about changing fixtures or hardware. A fresh coat of paint can completely change a room! How about a new piece of art or a new rug? Add curtains to a bare window. Replace the throw pillows on your couch. Add some plants to liven things up. You don’t have to start all over with your decorating to make a huge impact.

Here’s one more challenge. Love all parts of your home! Turn your least favorite room to your favorite. Is there an area you know you’re not utilizing to it’s full potential? Give it a purpose.

What was your favorite part of the home when you bought it? Was it the roomy tub or the gourmet kitchen? Take a day and spend some time in the place that you love.
