Get to Know Our Summer Intern: Kaitlyn Salgueiro

As a rising junior at Furman University, I am excited to join the Coldwell Banker Caine team as a summer marketing intern. Currently, I am working on a double major in Sociology and Business Administration. I have always been interested in the science of human behavior – why people make the decisions that they do at any given moment. At the same time, I am fascinated by how those individual decisions impact the business economy that we all live in every day. Marketing offers a way to tie both of those interests into my workday.

Born and raised in a small town in Rhode Island, I know that my scope of the world is pretty narrow. Moving my life to Greenville for college was definitely not easy, but the experience helped me branch out and find my passions. I have already found activities that I love at school. I have joined a sorority and currently serve as our Finance Vice President. Although I had no interest in finance, I love my sorority and wanted to find a way to get more involved. I ended up enjoying my position because I get to help my sisters and learn about budgeting – a useful life skill.

I also serve as the Homecoming Chair on the Student Alumni Council. Planning homecoming this year will be stressful but so fun since it’s the best weekend of the fall semester. There’s nothing better than getting to tailgate with all your post-grad friends who are back in town. I like to keep my daily schedule full and love to work with people. Every role that I take on at school keeps me busy, but also allows me to do what I love.

Since I learn best through hands-on experience, I knew that I wanted to dive into marketing this summer to see if it was something I really enjoyed. As I watch my friends and family graduate and move into post-grad life, I have realized that what I learn outside of lectures and studying is even more important than what I learn inside the classroom. You never truly know whether something is going to be right for you unless you jump in and try it out.

Though I’m still not sure what I want to do after college, working on an in-house marketing team gives me a unique opportunity to develop a variety of skills. So far, working with the Caine team has been amazing. I have been able to write content for social media, create graphics, and do data analysis all in the short time that I have been with the company. As I continue with my internship over the next few months, I hope to soak up every ounce of knowledge that the team throws my way. I look forward to the new skills I will develop and new projects I will be given as I settle into my role.
