2011 United Way Campaign Kick-Off

2011 United Way Campaign Kick-Off

Last week at our kick-off luncheon for the 2011 United Way Campaign, Scott Dishman of The Family Effect spoke to our agents and staff about his organization’s impact in the community and how the United Way supports their efforts.

Every year, more than 400 children in Greenville County are neglected or abused as a direct result of addiction in the home. The Family Effect is an organization working to turn those numbers around. Their mission is to reduce addiction as a leading cause of family collapse and harm to children.

The statistics of abuse and neglect are alarming. Every year in Greenville County 2,420 domestic assaults are reported.

And who suffers the most? The children.

Yearly:
1,326 children are confirmed as neglected or abused
559 children are removed from their home by the state
1,100 first graders are unprepared for a successful start in school
1,000 students drop out of high school, never to return

The United Way supports The Family Effect by partnering with them to provide case managers and other resources for those seeking help.

What can we do?

Coldwell Banker Caine has committed to raising $37,000 to give to the United Way in 2011 so that organizations like this can continue effecting our community in a powerful way. We want to be part of the change, and this is just one way we know that’s possible.
