CB Caine Agents Place in Trivia Night to Benefit Camp Opportunity

For over 70 years, the members of the Caine Companies have been proud to honor their founding philosophy of “always put people first, give of yourselves, and support the community that has been so generous to us all”.  On November 7, 2013, and February 6, 2014, generous CB Caine agents put others first, gave of themselves, and supported the community by attending — and succeeding!– in trivia night fundraisers for Camp Opportunity, Inc, a local nonprofit organization serving children affected by abuse and neglect.

The first annual “Be a Know-it-All for Kids” Trivia Night and silent auction was held on November 7, 2013, and CB Caine brought the most teams – including the 2nd place winners that (almost) knew-it-all, “Frosted Flakes are Great” led by agents Jake Dickens and Jim Cappio.

On February 6, 2014, CB Caine kicked off the “Smarts with a Heart!” Trivia Night by sponsoring the first round with questions related to Greenville and the Upstate communities (do YOU know the first operating cotton mill in Greenville?).  Amanda Jones, husband Kirk Jones, and agents Berry Gower and Mary Jo Ochylski gathered to show off their smarts & their hearts by playing trivia for a cause . . . and went home with a 3rd place title!  Way to go, teams!

For over 30 years, Camp Opportunity has been honored to offer hundreds of our community’s hurting children a chance to enjoy their childhoods.  For many children, the simple joys of a swim in the lake, a walk in the woods, or the fellowship of a campfire are once-in-a-lifetime experiences.  For many other children, abuse and neglect have robbed them of those simple joys of childhood.  For them, a swim in the lake, a walk in the woods, and the fellowship of a campfire are never-in-a-lifetime experiences.

Through the vision of grassroots volunteers from the Greenville area in 1979, Camp Opportunity was founded to provide those experiences to children affected by abuse and neglect. In 1980, 23 local children in foster care attended their first week of summer camp. They swam, sang songs, gathered around a campfire and they established a legacy of fun, love and support. In 2013, 80 children had the experiences of their lifetimes during their week with Camp Opportunity.

Today, Camp Opportunity, Inc. provides year-round educational, cultural and recreational enrichment that includes quarterly trips to The Children’s Museum and to the Mountain Goat rock-climbing gym, a year-round cycling/mentoring club (launching Spring 2014) and summer rafting trips., They are also planning to add a fun technology program in addition to the flagship program of the wonder-filled week of summer camp.   Thanks to the generous support of the community and friends like CB Caine, Camp Opportunity looks forward to many more years (and many more trivia nights).
