It’s that time of the year again. If you’re like me, your fridge is covered in “save the dates” and your Amazon history has been taken over by registry purchases. Welcome to wedding season, everyone.

From the white dress to the dancing, I’ve always been captivated by weddings. When I was younger I dreamed of being a flower girl, and I’ve watched the movie Father of the Bride one too many times. Naturally, I was thrilled when I began receiving friends’ wedding invitations, and occasionally being asked to be a member of the bridal party (six times and counting as a bridesmaid). However, even the most enthusiastic guests are not immune to wedding fatigue.

Whether you have 1 or 10 weddings on your calendar, keep your wedding season stamina with these wedding guest tips and tricks!

Come Prepared

  • Don’t show up hungry. Remember the ceremony comes before the food and a full meal isn’t always a guarantee as many weddings today offer hors d’oeuvres rather than a sit-down dinner. Prepare for whatever the situation may be by eating before and bringing a snack or two.
  • Stay hydrated and cool. Outdoor wedding? Bring a cold bottle of water, sunscreen up, and don’t forget your sunglasses.

Dress Your Best

  • Beauty doesn’t always mean pain.  Ladies, if you don’t think you can stand (let alone dance) in your shoes for multiple hours, don’t wear them! From head to toe, find the happy medium of fitting the dress code while still being comfortable.
  • What to wear? We’re all familiar with the feeling of having “nothing to wear” while starting at a full closet. Dressing for weddings, particularly in formal or black-tie attire is tough. This is where rental services come in. I’ve used Rent the Runway for several wedding guest dresses and rumor has it The Black Tux is the perfect online rental service for guys.

Be a Good Gift Giver

  • Stick to the registry. Everyone loves a thoughtful gift, but buying from the registry ensures there aren’t duplicates and that you’re buying something the couple actually wants. Include a kind note with your gift to let them know how much you care.
  • The best gift you can give is being an awesome guest. Show up early, be the first to hit the dance floor, and make the bride and groom feel special on their big day!

The best thing about wedding season is celebrating the happy union of two people in your life. Make the most of weddings you attend by having fun and being prepared! And if your weekends aren’t jam-packed with weddings, rewatch Father of the Bride and find another excuse to eat cake!
