The Spartanburg CVB earned the 2017 Readers’ Choice Award from SportsEvents — a publication specializing in promoting connections between sporting venues and event organizers. VisitGreenvilleSC earned 18 awards in the HSMAI Adrian Awards competition — a global travel marketing competition.

The long-anticipated opening of Chef Greg McPhee’s The Anchorage restaurant in the Village of West Greenville is almost here. McPhee, who worked alongside Sean Brock at Husk in Charleston, says by Dec. 21 they’ll be ready to host a soft-opening for friends and family to work out all the kinks over a few days. As long as inspections go as planned, The Anchorage, 586 Perry Ave., will officially open around New Year’s Day to the public, Tuesday-Saturday, 5-10 p.m. “We’ll start brunch as soon as we get our sea legs,” McPhee says.

When Rick Erwin first stepped inside Drayton Mill’s former company store, the Greenville restaurateur knew he’d found a home for his first Spartanburg eatery. On Monday, Erwin revealed the identity and provided a preview of the menu of that new dining concept The Standard: A Refined Kitchen, expected to open in the spring of 2017. The 185-seat, 7,000-square-foot restaurant will be a relaxed addition to his family of fine-dining establishments in the Upstate, offering customers quality food, service and atmosphere at an affordable price.

When national chains started leaving Haywood Road for Woodruff Road a few years ago and shoppers followed, some called it the death knell for Haywood as one of Greenville’s leading commercial corridors. “Just a few years ago, a lot of people worried about the future of Haywood Road. That day is over,” said Greenville Mayor Knox White. “Haywood offers a retail alternative to Woodruff Road, and that is a good thing for managing our growth.”

Craig Kinley’s craft beer “tribe” will expand into downtown Greer early next year. The Upstate entrepreneur said he has signed a lease on the 2,000-square-foot space at 213 Trade St., formerly home to Rhythm and Brews, for the fifth installment of his Anderson-based Growler Haus concept. It is the second new Growler Haus planned to open during the early part of 2017. The other will be a 2,400-square-foot location with an 800-square-foot beer garden at 12 Lois Ave. in the Village of West Greenville.
