Upstate Headlines: Shine On, Upstate! Welcoming Spring & Other News

Anyone else thankful to see more of the sun? As we welcome long-awaited Springtime, we are thrilled to see many positive headlines featuring the success of the Upstate. From receiving notable awards to making lists of “bests,” Greenville, Spartanburg, and everywhere in between is recognized as a great place to live!

Greenville Named to Best of the South List

Greenville was named the 5th best city in the South by Southern Living Magazine. The annual list takes into account criteria such as restaurants, outdoor activities, and unique culture. This is no surprise given Greenville’s restaurant scene and proximity to mountain air, bike trails, and lakes.

Chapman High Named One of SC’s Finest Schools

S.C. Association of School Administrators named five schools in South Carolina with the honor of Palmetto’s Finest Schools for 2018. Among the five, Chapman High was awarded. The schools were judged on an extensive evaluation process including everything from student achievement, to school culture, and instructional programs.

Upstate Press Shines at Awards Ceremony

The Greenville News and Anderson Independent Mail took home a combined 36 awards at the South Carolina Press Association Awards on 3/17. Of special focus was Greenville News photographer Lauren Petracca, who was named South Carolina photojournalist of the year. This award and others show that South Carolinians in the Upstate have access to accurate and intriguing journalism.

Upstate Basketball Teams Continue to Succeed

The Clemson men’s basketball team is into the NCAA tournament Sweet 16 for the first time in 21 years after beating the favorite Auburn in the second round. This also brings Clemson to 25 wins on the year, matching an all-time program record. Kansas, a perennial basketball powerhouse, awaits them in the sweet 16 on March 23rd.
