S.C.’s median home price jumps nearly 10% in January to $170,000
Across the Palmetto State, 4,272 homes were sold in January, a 3.7% increase from January 2015. The median price of those homes jumped 9.7% from the same time period to $170,000, according to a monthly report from the S.C. Association of Realtors. “The market seems to be moving steadily into the new year as we predict slightly more sales with slightly higher prices in 2016,” S.C. Realtors CEO Nick Kremydas said in a news release.
Volvo executive: Upstate suppliers will get business
Upstate auto suppliers can expect to land business from the car plant Volvo is building in the Lowcountry, according to the executive in charge of launching the plant. Katarina Fjording, vice president for purchasing and manufacturing in the Americas for Volvo Car USA, joined a panel discussion at the downtown Hyatt Friday for the final day of the 2016 South Carolina Automotive Summit. Fjording said she and her team are still working on sourcing for the Berkeley County plant, and she declined to name Upstate factories that might get contracts to supply it.
Shortfields restaurant is opening soon in Simpsonville
After three successful years in Travelers Rest, Shortfields restaurant owners are ready to try to enjoy the same success in the southern part of Greenville County. Another Shortfields restaurant is getting ready to open in downtown Simpsonville in the same location as the former P. Simpson’s Hometown Grille. Cory Satterfield, who owns Shortfields along with brothers John and Marvin Short, said he’s shooting for an opening date of April 1.
Mobile-friendly walking tour provides connection to city’s history
Once the center of a major railroad network and sprawling textile industry, the city of Spartanburg has history rooted in nearly every corner. The Spartanburg Convention & Visitors Bureau has introduced a new mobile-friendly website and a redesigned printed map for residents and visitors to explore downtown Spartanburg’s historic landmarks. Featuring 14 stops, the “Historic Downtown Walking Tour of Spartanburg” is a self-guided tour that highlights chapters of city development from the Revolutionary War era to the present day.
$21M joint venture underway at SCTAC
A $21 million joint venture between Greenville Technical College and the South Carolina Army National Guard is currently underway at the South Carolina Technology and Aviation Center (SCTAC) (a.k.a. Donaldson Center) on Perimeter Road in Greenville. The 95,457-square-foot, three-story facility is located on 14 acres almost directly across from the existing Greenville Armory, and next to a planned Greenville Field Maintenance Shop. The building will jointly house the SC Army National Guard Readiness Center and facilities for GTC’s Aircraft Maintenance Technology and Truck Driver Training programs.
