Proposed ordinance will require restaurants to have more parking
Shopping centers where restaurants exceed 25 percent of available floor space will have to have more off-street parking if they are adjacent to residential neighborhoods under new regulations. City Zoning Administrator Bryan Wood said current land use regulations call for one parking space per 650 square feet of shopping center space. But as shopping centers on the city’s corridors fill more of their space with restaurants, one parking space per 650 square feet isn’t enough to handle the number of cars and the excess spills onto residential streets, sparking complaints by neighbors.

Centre Stage to buy church for new location
Downtown’s Centre Stage will be looking toward an aging church to create new space – but the performing arts theater will maintain its chief presence in the heart of the city. Centre Stage is in negotiations to buy the East Park Baptist Church on Ebaugh Avenue, an emerging neighborhood just off Laurens Road and East Washington Street. The new initiative — dubbed “Off Centre” — would allow the theater to renovate the church and provide a 250-seat performance stage and new space for business offices, rehearsals and storage.
Menkoi Ramen House to open on North Main 
Menkoi Ramen House is opening their second Greenville location, this time downtown. Owner Kazuhiro Sato and his family opened their first Menkoi Ramen House in Columbia’s Vista in 2009. Since then they have opened two other restaurants, one in Charleston and the other on Woodruff Road. Their downtown location will be located on North Main in the former Dark Corner Distillery.
Newly announced States Games set to bring 3,000 athletes to Greenville 
Greenville will host the 2017 inaugural State Games South Carolina, slated to be the largest multi-sport, Olympic-style event in the state. The late spring competition is expected to bring 3,000 athletes and $1 million in revenue to the Upstate. The sports festival will kick off on Memorial Day weekend, May 27-29, with a track and field competition. On June 10 and 11, athletes will compete in archery, baseball, cycling, lacrosse, swimming and other events.
Downtown Deli and Donuts will open in Spartanburg 
A new restaurant is headed for downtown Spartanburg. Local restaurateur Elizabeth Evans said she plans to open Downtown Deli & Donuts on Monday in the Bijou building at 147 E. Main St. The eatery will serve a variety of vibrant and healthy breakfast dishes, a lunch menu chocked full of fresh and wholesome entrees, and, of course, gourmet donuts.
