Spartanburg leveraging Panthers camp for total city experience
A record-setting 135,371 people came to Spartanburg in 2016 to watch the Carolina Panthers at their training camp. City and county officials want to leverage that number to show there’s more to do than watch a professional football team prepare for its season. “This is Spartanburg’s prime time, and summer is in its full glory,” Jennings said. “The Panthers are the crown jewel, and we are not going to let that get dull.”
Larkin’s announces new Italian restaurant in former Playwright location
Larkin’s Restaurants has announced a new restaurant in the former Playwright space at RiversEDGE, 401 River St., in downtown Greenville. Opening in the fall, the new concept, Limoncello, will bring an Italian dining experience based on owner Larkin Hammond’s Italian roots. Limoncello will serve authentic Italian food from the region of Italy where Hammond’s grandparents and mother grew up, she says.
Downtown streetlights could improve your cellphone service
Walk down Greenville’s Main Street and you’ll be hard pressed to go a block without seeing people using their smartphones to search a list of restaurants to help them determine where they want to eat, watch the latest viral video, and to check email. Unlimited data plans and the meteoric rise of video streaming are putting a strain on wireless networks. In downtown Greenville, the solution could come from streetlights. ExteNet Systems, Inc. wants to deploy up to 23 small cell wireless antennas on streetlights and other existing structures in the public right-of-way in the city. Sixteen of those will be in the central business district.
Drift Float & Spa to open this fall in Greenville’s Main + Stone development
Drift Float & Spa is slated to be one of the next businesses to open at the Main + Stone mixed-used development located at the corner of North Main Street and Stone Avenue in Greenville. The float center will the be first of its kind in the city. The 2,441-square-foot space between Two Chefs and Jī-rōz will feature three private float suites with showers in each, an infrared sauna, a multi-purpose area to be used for massage and other spa treatments, and a lounge that will face North Main Street. Oxygen therapy will also be available in the lounge.
Clemson tops College Choice’s Best Colleges in South Carolina list
Clemson University, Presbyterian College, and the University of South Carolina top the newly released College Choice’s 2017 Best Colleges in South Carolina list.The independent online publication considered test scores, student-to-faculty ratios, student body diversity, and return on investment in coming up with its rankings. “South Carolina has something for everyone, which is important in an economy which needs more and more highly trained and educated workers,” said Christian Amondson, the site’s managing editor.
