Mixed-use development headed for Woodruff Road, State 14 intersection
A controversial mixed-use development will move forward after Greenville County Council voted to rezone a 10-acre parcel at the intersection of Woodruff Road and State 14. The mixed-use project dubbed “Trinity Park” will include building space for natural grocery store Sprouts Farmer’s Market, offices, retail and restaurants, along with 255 parking spaces, the developer said. About 4 acres have also been reserved for Southside Christian School, which is across the street, to construct a new building.
2017 Indie Craft Parade artists and makers announced
The 2017 Indie Craft Parade artists and makers have been announced, and the Upstate will make a strong showing with 20 artists. This year’s festival runs Sept. 15–17 at the Huguenot Loft, 101 W. Broad St. Tickets for the VIP Gala, Sept. 15 from 6–9 p.m., go on sale Aug. 1. Public shopping hours are Sept. 16, 9 a.m.–6 p.m., and Sept. 17, 11 a.m.–5 p.m. Admission at the door is $5.
Crane removal signals final push for downtown Spartanburg’s AC Hotel
A symbol for downtown Spartanburg’s momentum vanished Tuesday. The 208-foot-tall tower crane used for construction of the 10-story, 114-room AC Hotel spearheaded by Spartanburg-based OTO Development and Johnson Development was officially dismantled. But project officials said the crane’s removal is the beginning of the end of the $20 million project, which is expected to have a positive impact on the city for decades to come.
First Look: Diner 24 Now Open
The almost two-year-long wait for the opening of Diner 24 in the former Charlie’s Steakhouse location at 18 E. Coffee St., downtown Greenville, is over. The décor is 1950’s-themed with chrome and teal tables, walls, vinyl seating, black and white checkered tile floors, the original wooden stairs, and original hammered tin ceiling on both levels. A juke box set-up to play retro and throwback tunes. The menu, which includes breakfast, lunch, and dinner options, and hand-spun milkshakes and house-made pies, is available 24 hours a day.
S.C. Ports Authority reports record volume for FY2017
South Carolina’s port traffic reached an all-time high during the 2017 fiscal year. The state Ports Authority (SCPA) on Wednesday reported it moved a record 2.14 million 20-foot equivalent units between July 2016 and June 2017, a 10 percent increase compared with the previous year. SCPA said the volume at its Inland Port in Spartanburg County near Greer finished the year having completed a record 121,761 rail moves, a 33 percent increase compared with fiscal year 2016.
