Knox White reacts to Greenville being named 4th fastest growing US city
From 2010 to 2016, Greenville’s population jumped nearly 10,000 people, making it the fourth fastest growing city in the nation, according to a new Census Report. Mayor Knox White said, “As the city becomes more desirable — great downtown and neighborhoods — we are getting a greater share of that growth. Hence our city population is jumping after decades of decline. More than ever we have to plan smarter. “
Greenville, Spartanburg Lidl stores will open June 15
Lidl stores will open in Greenville and Spartanburg June 15. The two stores, at 2037 Wade Hampton Blvd. in Greenville and 8180 Warren H. Abernathy Highway in Spartanburg, are the Germany-based global discount supermarket chain’s first in South Carolina. The two stores are among the nine Lidl plans to open in the U.S. June 15. The chain plans to open 20 U.S. stores this summer.
Charleston, pshaw — Greenville County is the state’s most populated
After years of coming in second to Columbia, the City of Charleston finally crossed the final hurdle that would once and for all set them apart as South Carolina’s top city. Greenville is right at No. 6 with a population of 67,452. Greenville County has a population of 498,766, making it the most populated county in the state.
Grocery chain Sprouts may put first SC store on Woodruff Road
What could be the first Sprouts Farmers Market in South Carolina is on track to open at the corner of Woodruff Road and Highway 14 after the Greenville County Planning Commission agreed to a rezoning. The rezoning, applauded and opposed by neighbors at a public hearing, now goes to Greenville County Council. Under a proposal from RealtyLink, a Greenville-based real estate developer, the grocery would occupy 30,000 square feet of retail space at the intersection, beside a cemetery called Graceland East Memorial Park.
New Spartanburg restaurant serves up soul food
Jason W. Glenn Sr. has always dreamed of opening a restaurant. After years spent catering, he’s now fulfilling that ambition by opening Big Glenn’s Grill at the corner of East Main Street and Pine Street in Spartanburg. The restaurant’s menu is a combination of soul food and grilled food. Big Glenn’s held its grand opening May 28 after months of work getting the building ready since December.
