I-85/I-385 project to go into full swing
The South Carolina Department of Transportation will break ground on Feb. 5 for the official start of the I-85/I-385 gateway project. SCDOT workers are beginning nighttime closures of lanes this month to put up construction signs and a temporary barrier wall in both directions of travel on both interstate highways, the department said in a release.
FIRST LOOK: Halls Chophouse
After being closed for the past few weeks, a newly branded Halls Chophouse is set to open Saturday, Jan. 23, in the former High Cotton space in Greenville’s West End. Bill Hall Sr. who along with his wife, Jeanne, and two sons, Billy and Thomas, owns Hall Management Group, which purchased High Cotton in May 2015 from Dick Elliott, president and founder of Maverick Southern Kitchens. Hall said the company has spent “close to half a million dollars” in renovations with new paint, wallpaper, furniture, artwork, carpeting and lighting. Extensive work was also done in the kitchen with all-new equipment.
Cheesecake Factory coming to Haywood Mall this summer
The Cheesecake Factory has officially announced its highly anticipated restaurant will be opening this summer at Haywood Mall in Greenville. It will be the full-service restaurant chain’s first location in South Carolina. The Cheesecake Factory is famed for its wide selection of decadent cheesecakes and extensive menu of more than 250 dishes.
State, local leaders break ground on $1.4B Toray plant in Moore
Textiles fed local industry for more than a century. Now, a new fiber will help feed Spartanburg County’s economy. State and local officials on Tuesday joined with executives from Toray Industries to break ground on the Japanese manufacturer’s $1.4 billion plant that will be constructed on 400 acres near the intersection of highways 290 and 221 in Moore. The project, which was announced in February 2014, is South Carolina’s largest initial investment in a new production facility ever. It will initially create about 500 jobs.
Townhome community Whispering Oaks open in Mauldin
Whispering Oaks, a maintenance-free townhome community in Mauldin by Great Southern Homes, has completed its model home and is now open to the public. Twenty townhomes were built previously by another builder. Great Southern Homes plans to add 39 more for a total of 59 units in the community. Each 2,200-square-foot townhome will feature four bedrooms (master on the main level), three and a half baths, and a loft with community green spaces. Prices are in the $160,000s.
