Food Republic: Greenville’s 10 can’t-miss restaurants
Seems like every week another national media outlet discovers what makes Greenville a great place to live and visit. This time it’s Food Republic listing its top 10 can’t-miss restaurants in town, and it’s not just limited to Main Street this go-around. Katie Change of Food Republic writes, “After spending a few days in Greenville this fall, it was a no-brainer why the city is on the radar for travelers with eating well on the mind. And despite its small size, the dining scene here packs a surprisingly diverse punch.”
Greenlink prepares to buy electric bus, hires new director
Greenlink, the Greenville County bus service, is getting ready to buy its first battery-powered bus, but there’s no guarantee it will be made by Proterra, the electric bus manufacturer with a factory in Greenville. Separately, the city of Greenville has hired a new director of public transportation to run Greenlink starting on Monday, Gary Shepard. Shepard said he hopes to play a role in making Greenville’s bus system better.
American Grocery wins front of house award from restaurant association
American Grocery has been serving seasonal farm-to-table cuisine since it opened its doors in 2007, earning the West End eatery the admiration of area foodies. This week, the Greater Greenville Chapter of the S.C. Restaurant and Lodging Association honored American Grocery by giving bar manager and head mixologist Kirk Ingram its Restaurant Front of the House Award.
Tryon Equestrian Partners wins bid to host 2018 FEI World Equestrian Games
The world’s top equestrian competition could have an unbridled economic impact on the Upstate and Western North Carolina. Tryon Equestrian Partners (TEP) on Thursday announced it has secured the bid to host the Fédération Equestre Internationale’s (FEI) 2018 World Equestrian Games at the Tryon International Equestrian Center (TIEC) in Mill Spring, N.C. FEI said the world championships could attract 1,200 riders from 70 countries and 500,000 spectators, and have a more than $400 million impact.
Vietnamese restaurant opens in downtown Spartanburg
Lannie Thang Bui started assembling egg rolls and cooking broth for soup early Friday in preparation of her restaurant’s grand opening in downtown Spartanburg. By 10 a.m., plates of vegetable and turkey egg rolls and Vietnamese chicken greeted passersby, while the smell of broth for pho — a noodle soup consisting of broth, rice noodles, herbs and thin slices of meat like beef or chicken — filled the air. Bui and her husband Tony Nguyen on Friday opened their Vietnamese restaurant concept The Lemongrass Kitchen in the 800-square-foot space on Dunbar Street formerly occupied by Café Around the Corner.
