Guess who landed on Zagat’s 16 Under-the-Radar Southern Food Destinations list? Greenville is the first city on the list, though it doesn’t appear to be in a particular order. Here’s how Zagat describes Greenville’s atmosphere: Greenville is often overshadowed by the Antebellum glamour and decadent Lowcountry dishes of South Carolina’s major food center, Charleston. What it lacks in population and James Beard awards, it makes up for with stunning Blue Ridge Mountain scenery, small-town charm and fantastic fare. It’s like the perfect lovechild of Chucktown and Asheville.

Two innovative Greenville businesses are collaborating on a new project that will elevate both to new levels, and also frame the city as a center for high quality coffee. Methodical Coffee and The Community Tap have joined forces to create a roasting facility at 3 McBeth St. near the Swamp Rabbit Trail and across from the old Monaghan Mill. The 4,000-square-foot space will be equipped to support a wholesale roasting business, as well as a barista training program, and a retail space that will carry Methodical branded products.  In the world of coffee, where the roasted beans are considered the backbone of the business, the new facility will allow Methodical to grow its brand exponentially.

Hand-painted wall, floor and ceiling murals, tattoo-inspired artwork, unique chandeliers and roll-up doors offering indoor/outdoor seating are just part of Ink N Ivy, a new bar and restaurant concept by restaurant group, The Bottle Cap Group. Ink N Ivy, located in the former Corner Pocket space on Coffee Street, is slated to open the end of May. The Upstate Business Journal got a “first look” at the space this week, which will include several bar areas, including a rooftop bar, and two floors of restaurant space that will serve “classic American food but with an edgy twist and attention to detail and quality.”

Beer could be flowing at Taylors Mill by the Fourth of July. That would suit 13 Stripes, the brewery named for the flag. Stainless steel fermenters and a brewhouse for a 10-barrel system arrived last week to assemble before exposed brick in the old Southern Bleachery, a growing scene of small businesses and artisans renting space to give new life to the historic industrial behemoth. A taproom with a capacity for 299 will blend with a large outdoor seating area, signature bar, and mural painted by local artists once the seal is opened on the space of 8,000 square feet.
