The 101 Espresso Bar opened in the unique flat-iron-style building at 101 Wade Hampton Blvd. in Greenville. Owned and operated by a Greek family, their specialty will be Greek espresso. Customers can enjoy their beverage while surrounded by the homemade art that decorates this cozy little coffee shop. The 101 Espresso Bar will be open Monday-Saturday 7 a.m.-9pm, and Sunday 8 a.m.-2 p.m.

Three struggling fire departments in southern Spartanburg County are planning to merge so they can provide better fire protection.The merger of the fire departments in Enoree, Cross Anchor and Hobbysville has been discussed for more than 20 years. With fewer volunteer firefighters available and shrinking budgets, the fire departments hope combining resources will solve some of their financial and personnel issues. The merger likely would include tax hike for residents served by those departments and the addition of paid staff to better cover day shifts.

Four finalists have been chosen by the city of Greenville for a piece of public art it is commissioning to replace the Shoeless Joe Jackson statue in the West End Plaza. Michael Szivo, founder of the New York city-based design studio SOFTlab; Michael Kalish, an artist known for creating sculptures from automobile license plates; Adam Buente, co-founder of ProjectiOne, a digital design and fabrication studio; and Po Shu Wang, a California-based artist; will be asked to submit project proposals. The city said it is looking for an “aesthetically pleasing, contemporary work of public art that is uplifting and will inspire public interaction and conversation,” and will integrate with the existing architecture and public space.

A major terminal project at Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport, known as WINGSPAN, is projected to have a $164 million local economic impact and provide close to 1,400 jobs. Media were granted a private tour of the airport’s $125 million renovation prior to an invitation-only grand opening on Tuesday night, where GSP’s President and CEO Dave Edwards spoke.

A new wine store will be opening soon on West Main Street in downtown Spartanburg. Jeff House, owner of Bond Street Wines in Charlotte, is hoping to open the Spartanburg shop by the end of summer. House has owned Bond Street Wines for the past 12 years. He said he and his wife, Missy, had been looking for a location in the Upstate for a while, and then they found the downtown space, they felt it was a perfect fit.
