The sound of the trolley bell has been a staple of downtown Greenville for 10 years now, ever since the Greenville Drive invested in them as a novel way to transport fans within tight city confines. The trolleys’ use as a neighborhood service started out as an experiment. On days when there wasn’t a game, the trolleys, driven by city public works employees, would travel the length of Main Street. But they needed a place to turn around, so they found their way through the edge of the North Main community along historic Earle Street.
Editorial: Artisphere contributes to Greenville’s success
One of downtown Greenville’s most fun and important weekends is coming up in just two days when Artisphere takes over much of Main Street beginning this Friday. This three-day festival has rightfully become one of the top visual arts festivals in the nation, and will bring nearly 100,000 people downtown to see and buy the work of 135 visual artists from around the country.
Downtown Greenville is getting a “convenience” Chick-fil-A location
You’ll soon be able to get your Chick-fil-A chicken sandwich downtown. The fast food restaurant is opening a location at 2 N. Main St. in the heart of Greenville. The space, which formerly housed Coffee & Crema, has remained vacant since the coffee shop closed last spring. But Chick-fil-A franchisee Steven Bryant sees great potential in the small space. Bryant, who has operated the Chick-fil-A location at Cherrydale since 2004, says he’s long had his eye on downtown Greenville.
“Love Where You Live” gift cards promote local spending in Spartanburg
The Spartanburg Area Chamber of Commerce announced the launch of its “Love Where You Live” gift card program in celebration of Small Business Week. Presented by SunTrust, the program seeks to encourage Spartanburg residents and visitors to support local businesses by keeping their dollars in the community.
CycleBar plans October opening in downtown Greenville
CycleBar, an indoor, low-impact, high-intensity cycling experience, is coming to downtown Greenville. New franchise owners Eric Skoloff and Keith Boettiger plan to open the 3,300-square-foot studio this October in the soon-to-be-renovated Keys Printing Building at 307 E. McBee Ave. CycleBar is one of the newest and fastest-growing cycling franchises in the U.S., adding more than 200 studios in its first year of franchising. According to the company’s corporate website, it is on pace to have 100 studios open to riders by Dec. 31, 2016, and break into more than 50 new U.S. markets.
