Greenville named one of 30 Most Charming College Town Main Streets
Greenville may not be considered by some to be a college town because it doesn’t have a four-year public college within its city limits, but its Main Street has been named one of the 30 Most Charming College Town Main Streets by Best Value Schools. Best Value Schools started with 100 cities which have at least one college or university sharing the same zip code and considered items such as walkability, amenities offered, and local events calendars to come up with the 30 Most Charming. Greenville, home to Furman University, Bob Jones University, and Greenville Technical College, was cited for its sidewalk cafes, tree-lined streets, and European feel.
White Duck Taco Shop nears completion, opening date
The taco shop’s ability to open hinges on two very important projects: the refinishing of the Hampton Station parking lot and the completion of the common restrooms. Both are nearly done, as is construction in the restaurant. Co-owners of the White Duck Greenville franchise, Richard King and Dan Singletary, began work on March 20 in the space after originally planning to open in February. They hope to be open within the next two weeks and are currently hiring all positions.
Amenities on track at Spartanburg rail trail park
The first amenities for a 7-acre community park along the Mary Black Foundation Rail Trail are nearly complete. The finishing touches are being put on a trolley-like pavilion with seating to serve as the entrance to the park, called The Rail Yard, on Forest Avenue. Plexiglas panels with historic trolley photographs already are inside the structure, and a board for posting community announcements will be added. The Rail Yard also will include a mountain biking course; an amphitheater with terraced seating and a stage; a great lawn with picnic areas and a multi-use field; open-air tree houses; a water misting station; bike racks; paved and natural trails; a designated dog area; a Spartanburg Water bottle refilling station; a bathroom facility; and an NFL Play 60 obstacle course.
Level 10 restaurant to open this fall atop AC Hotel in Spartanburg
Upstate restaurateur Rick Erwin, who recently opened The Standard at Drayton Mill in Spartanburg, is opening his next restaurant on the 10th floor of the highly anticipated hotel at the corner of West Main Street and Daniel Morgan Avenue. Level 10, a high-end concept modeled after Good Food on Montford in Charlotte, plans to open this fall with chef Brian Lindsay at the helm.
Instacart brings grocery delivery service to Upstate
Parents, last-minute shoppers, and anyone else who dreads or simply doesn’t have time for regular trips to the grocery store now have another delivery service option. Instacart launched June 1 across the Upstate, offering deliveries from Whole Foods, Costco, Publix, and Petco to residents in Greenville, Taylors, Simpsonville, Easley, and Greer, among other areas. The online and app-based delivery system can get groceries to users’ doorsteps in as little as an hour, or deliveries can be scheduled in advance for a specific date and time.
