To say there’s a lot going on in Greenville is an understatement. From new parks to huge mixed-use developments in the middle of downtown to improvements to one of Greenville’s most traveled and congested intersections, these transformative projects are all underway. Here’s an update on some of Greenville’s most earth-moving undertakings: Dig Greenville, Cancer Survivors Park, Camperdown, 85-385 Gateway, County Square, GHS Swamp Rabbit Trail Expansion, Verdae, City Park, and Northpointe.

The NFL’s Carolina Panthers attracted 99,196 visitors to its 2017 training camp at Wofford College in Spartanburg. It was the second-highest attendance recorded at the camp held in Spartanburg since the team’s inaugural season in 1994, according to numbers released Monday by the Spartanburg Convention and Visitors Bureau (SCVB).

woodruff-traffic-1DOT once again mulling fix for Woodruff Road
The government is studying what to do about traffic congestion on Woodruff Road. Again. Various state and local officials have talked about ways to relieve congestion on Greenville’s biggest retail corridor for more than a decade. Now the South Carolina Department of Transportation is using a website — fixwoodruffroad.com — to gather input from the public. In addition, representatives of DOT and a Columbia-based consultant it has hired, Infrastructure Consulting & Engineering, are scheduled to take more public input on Saturday, Aug. 26, according to Jonathan R. Chasteen, an engineer in the DOT office on Pleasantburg Drive.

The changes are happening gradually, but they are noticeable, slowly breathing what owners hope is new life into one of downtown Greenville’s decades old restaurants. In December, Martin Hill took over as owner of Sassafras Southern Bistro and he has been carefully nudging the restaurant into a new, fresher, direction, one that doesn’t change the foundation but that improves it.

Spartanburg Medical Center is the second best hospital in South Carolina and the best hospital in the Upstate, Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System (SRHS) announced Monday. U.S. News & World Report, a digital news and information company, recently announced its list of the Palmetto State’s best hospitals. Nine out of the state’s 90 hospitals were named on the list, with the Medical University of South Carolina earning the top spot.
