The Caine Companies: Contributions to Greenville’s growth

With an 80-year presence in Greenville, The Caine Companies has had the opportunity to watch the bloom of a vibrant community and to contribute to the city’s growth and development. Take a look at some past projects that Caine Company leaders Bubber Caine, Frank B. Halter, Caine Halter and Brad Halter, were instrumental in developing.

Pictured below is Bubber Caine’s first Greenville contribution, the Tuten Mart, built in 1937.

Lewis Plaza, developed in 1949, proved to be an inventive project for its time; the plaza brought a shopping complex and two apartment developments to the Upstate.

Opened in 1950, the Calhoun Towers still stands today on North Main between Academy and College Streets. The bottom floor of the development served as the offices for The Caine Companies until 1973.
