National Homeownership Month: What does homeownership mean to you?

National Homeownership Month

The satisfaction of a freshly cut lawn, enjoying the aroma of a home cooked meal, being greeted by your children’s hugs and laugher after a long workday, the sense of accomplishment opening the door of your first home and stepping into all the possibilities. This is your home. This is what homeownership is all about. As the saying goes, ‘Home is where the heart is.’ We, at Coldwell Banker Caine, would like to share with you what homeownership means to us.

National Homeownership Month started as a week-long celebration of homeownership during the Clinton administration in 1995. In 2002, President George W. Bush proclaimed June as the National Homeownership Month.

“Homeownership is an important part of the American Dream…A home provides shelter and a safe place where families can prosper and children can thrive. For many Americans, their home is an important financial investment, and it can be a source of great personal pride and an important part of community stability.”- George W. Bush

What does Homeownership mean to you?

“Freedom to unleash my creativity in the garden and interior design!”

What Memories do you have owning your first home?

“Owning our first home had special meaning because our family was growing! Expecting our second child when we purchased, we were able to bring a little brother home to our three-year-old son. It meant the world to have a bedroom for the boys and a big fenced yard to play in!”

Margaret Smith, CBC Greenville Agent

“I loved, and still love pulling into the garage and having the door close behind me. It feels like my house is hugging me and welcoming me home!”

Why own a home vs. rent?

“ Owning a home is that feeling of accomplishment you have earned ownership. Not every person is able to own his or her home. Homeownership is a reward once you have strived to maintain job history and good credit standing. Like many things in life, you set a goal and can feel that you have succeeded. Once you own your home, you are making an investment into your future as you build equity. Ownership is a wise financial step and brings years of rewards.”

Lori Thompson, CBC Spartanburg Agent

“It’s a fabulous investment and the best way to continue building your own wealth. It also builds character.  Nothing like seeing the fruits of your own labor; painting, building a fence, having a glass of wine on the deck you built.”
