26 Apr Home Tip Of The Week: Spring Maintenance Checklist
Spring has sprung, and summer is quickly on its way. Take advantage of the beautiful weather to do some basic maintenance checks that could save you from expensive repairs later on.
Check Your Roof
The roof of your home is the first defense against weather so it’s important to make sure it’s well kept up. Look for broken or missing shingles, rusted flashing, cracked caulk around skylights and pipe collars, and other issues.
Air Conditioning
Don’t get caught without air in the dog days of summer. Schedule your annual service call to keep the system working at peak performance levels. Also, take this time to change the interior filters.
Gutters
Do a thorough clean. Then make sure your gutters are not loose or leaky and that downspouts drain water away from the foundation.
Paint
Not only does a good paint job make your home look great, it also adds a protective barrier. Touching up paint is an easy way to spruce up for spring.
Trim Trees & Shrubs
Ensuring that branches are far enough away from your home can not only reduce rubbing and moisture but also helps discourage squirrels and other animals from nesting. In spring, it can be easier to identify limbs before leaves grow.
Window & Door Seals
Winter weather can crack caulk and other weather seals. Check for leaks and repair as necessary to save on air conditioning this summer and potential water damage.
Driveways, Porches, & More
Pressure washing can make a huge difference in the appearance of many outdoor surfaces.
Happy sprucing — those summer nights are sure to be more enjoyable when you know your home is in good shape.
