Celebrate the 4th of July at these Upstate Events

As the end of June draws near, we look forward to celebrating the anniversary of our nation’s independence on the 4th of July. There’s nothing quite as American as spending the day off at a picnic, concert, barbecue, or festival. Don’t forget to look to the sky for the grand finale – a fireworks show!

Have you ever wondered why fireworks have become synonymous with Independence Day? It started with John Adams. In a letter to Abigail Adams on July 3, 1776, he wrote that the occasion should be commemorated “with Pomp and Parade, with Shews, Games, Sports, Guns, Bells, Bonfires and Illuminations from one End of this Continent to the other from this Time forward forever more.”

There are plenty of events around the Upstate where you can enjoy the all-American tradition of fireworks as well as live music, food, and more!

Wells Fargo Red, White & Blue Festival
July 4 from 5–10 pm, Main Street in Downtown Greenville
This Greenville festival is home to one of the state’s largest fireworks displays – plus live music on two stages, a kid’s area, and a variety of food trucks and vendors! Treat yourself to BBQ, Jamaican classics, tacos, vegan dishes, ice cream, pound cake, popcorn, and more.

City of Spartanburg Red, White & Boom
July 4 from 6–10 pm, Barnet Park
Enjoy patriotic music from the Spartanburg Community band and high-energy music from Jessie’s Girls later as well as great food and a spectacular firework show, of course, from Zambelli Fireworks!

Celebrate America Festival
July 3 from 4–9 pm and July 4 from 3–11 pm, Old Market Square
Easley’s two-day festival includes live music, 11 amusement rides, and plenty of food vendors from BBQ to shaved ice. Enjoy Independence Day in Old Market Square!

Freedom Blast
June 30 from 6–10:30 pm, Greer City Park
For a decade now, Freedom Blast has been celebrating freedom and the men and women who make it possible. Much more than just food and fireworks, this event also includes a skydiving show, military tribute, rib eating contest, blood drive, and music!

Celebrate Simpsonville
June 30 at 6 pm, Heritage Park Amphitheatre
Simpsonville Mayor Janice Curtis will parachute from a plane to kick off the event, benefiting the Children’s Miracle Network, Quilts of Valor, and Honor Flight of the Upstate. Then enjoy a free concert from Charlie Daniels Band and the fireworks show.

All American Blast
July 1 from 4–10 pm, Commerce Park
With fireworks, live music by the Ville Band, a DJ, food, drinks, a bounce house, face paint, and more, there’s something for the whole family to enjoy at this event in Fountain Inn!

2018 Clemsonfest
July 3 from 5–10 pm, 1569 Eighteen Mile Road Central, SC
Beginning at 6 pm, the Carolina Beach Music Festival Band of the Year, Carolina Coast Band, will be playing original tunes and shag standards. At 9:30 pm, the band gives way to the fireworks show. Plus, enjoy food vendor offerings all night long.
