Greenville got its first glance on Tuesday of the new Reedy River park and how the area surrounding it could be transformed. The signature park will be on land now occupied by the city’s public works facility. Possible amenities include: a great lawn, stage, baseball park, a destination playground, garden walk and community gardens, new pedestrian bridge over the Reedy River, picnic pavilions, an adult fitness area and climbing wall, and a “sprayground” water feature.

Farmhouse Tacos will open late fall on the Swamp Rabbit Trail at 164 S. Main St., Travelers Rest. The 3200-square-foot restaurant will feature outdoor dining, a small and somewhat-Southern inspired menu, a handful of hand-crafted cocktails, including a fresh squeezed margarita, and craft and local beers.

As dusk fell over the city of Spartanburg Tuesday evening, a new public art project started to shine. Local residents gathered across the community to officially launch Seeing Spartanburg in a New Light, coinciding with the celebration of National Night Out. The project was funded by a $1 million grant awarded in 2015 by Bloomberg Philanthropies. It features temporary art instillations at nine sites benefiting 10 neighborhoods in the city.

Sidewall Pizza Company is coming to Pelham Road. Sidewall opened their first restaurant in Travelers Rest in January 2015 and their second near Cleveland Park in May of this year. The Pelham location is set to open in the first quarter of 2017. When opening each location, Andy O’Mara intentionally choses areas where they were able to be part of a neighborhood and community. “We hope to be more accessible to another pocket of Greenville,” says O’Mara.

The Furman Advantage, a new initiative announced by the university Wednesday, guarantees every incoming freshman an engaged learning experience that is tracked and integrated with their academic and professional goals, giving students an educational experience that combines an intimate campus with the breadth of opportunity usually afforded by a larger university. Students have had engaged learning opportunities since the 1990s, but The Furman Advantage takes it to the next level, Furman University President Elizabeth Davis said. “We’re taking another step to reimagine a Furman education — one that adds value and addresses community needs,” she said.
