Housing market remains strong, economist says
Thanks to continued rising income and job growth, the housing market in the Greater Greenville region — including Greenville, Laurens and Pickens counties — remains stronger than many other areas of the country. Robert Dietz, chief economist and vice president of the National Association of Home Builders, said the market is offsetting price increases with a rise in the median income of residents in the area.
Artisphere announces artists, programming
The 135 artists selected for Artisphere’s Artist Row include an artist from Cuba who escaped in a boat he built himself, an artist whose watercolor and colored pencil drawings are smaller than a thimble and an artist named beer. Artist Row will also include some familiar faces — 17 of the artists selected by a panel of five jurors out of the 1,136 that applied are local and 94 have exhibited in Artisphere before. Artisphere appeals to performing arts fans, too. Dozens of local and regional acts will perform on four stages. Artisphere is May 12-14.
Fluor Field hosts college baseball showdowns starting March 3
Baseball season is right around the corner at Greenville’s Fluor Field, with a $13 million enhancement project nearing completion. The College Baseball Series kicks off Friday, March 3, with the return of the First Pitch Invitational. A highlight includes the Reedy River Rivalry between Clemson and South Carolina on March 4. The college baseball season at Fluor Field concludes with the Southern Conference Tournament, which runs from Tuesday, May 23, through Sunday, May 28. To see all games and times, click here.
Magnolia Park adds new shops
Kirkland’s Home Store and Elife Nail Spa will be new tenants at the Magnolia Park development situated on Woodruff Road in Greenville. According to property owner M&J Wilkow Kirkland’s will be situated between Tin Lizzy’s Cantina and Another Broken Egg Café in a 7,330 square-foot space. Elife Nail Spa will be located inside a 2,550-square-foot storefront between Scottrade and Allen Tate Realtors. Both additions are expected to be in place by the end of the spring.
Two Rick Erwin’s restaurants get a facelift
In case you missed it: two of five Rick Erwin’s restaurants got a noticeable facelift in the fall amid the restaurant group’s expansion into other markets. The original – Rick Erwin’s West End Grille – and Nantucket Seafood received updates to the tune of $275,000. West End Grille (WEG) got a complete interior update, while Nantucket Seafood amped up the wow factor with new lighting by glass artist Ryan Gothrup of Mt. Juliet, Tenn., a featured artist at Artisphere.
