Coldwell Banker Caine’s featured artist for the final quarter of 2011 is not only a talented painter but also a Greenville native with an active commitment to community involvement. Grammar school lessons along with private teaching during her high school years are what began to shape Randolph New Armstrong’s interest in the arts. She continued her studies at Converse College in Spartanburg and the University of South Carolina in Columbia.

With her focus largely in watercolor, Randy has distinguished herself in recent years with numerous awards and exhibit invitations including:

  • 2002: awarded The Mary S. Litt Memorial Medal by the American Watercolor Society (AWS), a non-profit begun in 1866 to promote the art of watercolor in America.
  • 2003: selected for the AWS exhibit
  • 2005: elected to Signature Membership in AWS
  • 2006: awarded the Mary and Maxwell Desser Memorial Award at the AWS exhibition; received Best In Show at the SC Watermedia exhibition.

Randy has also exhibited in the San Diego Watercolor Society International Exhibition, an event attracting hundreds of entries from artists all over the world.

Her involvement in the community is extensive. Randy is a Presbyterian church deacon as well as founder and first coordinator of Survivors of Suicide, a support group for those who have lost loved ones to suicide. She is the founder and first president of Friends of the Zoo, past president of the Junior League of Greenville and a member of Greenville Women Giving. She belongs to many arts organizations including Upstate Visual Arts and the Metropolitan Arts Council, and is past president of the SC Watermedia Society.

Randy’s love for people, life, and giving comes across in each of her pieces. She has said of her work,

“For me, art is a lifelong journey that is influenced by feelings and experiences. I enjoy cheerful, intense color and use bright hues in most of my work. People are my favorite subjects and I always try to find a special spot for one in my paintings. It is my hope that my work will brighten the viewer’s day and bring a smile. For me, painting is a great joy and gift–a colorful expression to share.”

Welcome to our Main Street Gallery, Randy!
