Meet The Artist: Kim Hassold

Meet The Artist: Kim Hassold

Each quarter, we display work from a different local artist at our Main Street Real Estate Gallery. Our newest featured artist is Kim Hassold. To learn a little more about Kim, we asked her some questions about her work.

Explain the process you go through for your work. What draws you to the mediums you choose?

Everyday things can be fascinating depending on how you look at them. I’ve always been a people watcher and love to try to capture a mood without actually identifying the person. I spend a lot of time studying photos and colors and then usually work on a series of several paintings at the same time. Helps with my tendency to overpaint.

The mediums I choose are based on how long it takes them to dry (I use acrylics and big brushes) and how much texture I can get out of them (mixed media is the best).

Sassy-Bird-8x10What piqued your interest in art?

Friends, family and a creative project are at the top of the list for what makes a good day. Writing and painting are pretty normal in my world. You can never get as good as you could be in either.

How would you describe your style of art?

Loose, impressionistic and colorful

Where do you gather most of the inspiration for your work?

Just paying attention really. I want to communicate what I see in a meaningful way to other people.

Cool girlsWhat’s your favorite piece of your own work?

So hard to say. I’ve done a lot of pieces that were very personal to the people who commissioned them and I always feel so happy when they love them. Then there are the ones where I just paint whatever I want that day. Both are endlessly interesting.

What’s an interesting fact about you or your work?

I can find a four-leaf clover anywhere. It’s my hidden talent.

DaisiesWhat famous artist do you most admire?

Matisse. All of the Bay Area figurative artists, Linda Christensen, Nancy Rhodes Harper, Leslie Weaver, Sally King Benedict. And locally, Joseph Bradley is such a great artist and a really nice guy, too. I’m a big fan.
