The popular Lake Keowee is a great place for fishing, boating, kayaking and sailing. Covering over 18,300 acres, Lake Keowee is one of the purest clear lakes in North America. Built in 1970, the Lake Keowee reservoir was part of Duke Power’s multimillion dollar projects to provide energy for the upstate. The Keowee Dam and Little River Dam impound the Keowee and Little River, which forms the Seneca River just past the dam head -a tributary of the Savannah River. The Keowee River, which is now inundated by Lake Keowee, was historically known as the Cherokee Lower Towns region. The Cherokee town Keowee was on the bank of this lost river.

Lake Keowee is a large part of why this part of South Carolina is most desirable. Today, Lake Keowee welcomes travelers, tourists, and future residents from around the Southeast, who come to enjoy the spectacular grandeur of the lake and its surrounding mountains. Boating, fishing, water-skiing, hiking, rock-climbing – the possibilities for outdoor recreation are endless.  As Lake Keowee is just 45 minutes from Greenville, residents can easily access the city’s entertainment, dining, and shopping options.

Several luxury communities, including the Cliffs at Keowee Vineyards and the Reserve at Lake Keowee, populate the shores and surrounding areas.  This area is incredibly popular with those purchasing second homes.  The Reserve is a waterfront golf community that is nestled on the shores of this impressive Lake.  This 27 Hole, Jack Nicklaus Signature Course is surrounded by the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains.
